A few months ago, I was asked to teach a songwriting class for the students at Fond du Lac High School. Teaching any form of creative art is such an interesting endeavor, and I certainly learned a lot about my own songwriting process in the time I spent prepping for the class.

We had many fun moments in the 50-minute class, and quite a few new songs were hatched that day. Some especially brave and generous students even volunteered to work out their new song with me in front of the class!

I just released the first 2 chapters of, “What is a Song?” on my Youtube channel, and I’ll be releasing the rest gradually over the next few weeks.

Go ahead and check out the YT playlist, and while you’re there subscribe to my channel to be notified when the next chapters come out. Thanks!

“What is a Song?” is a songwriting class for anyone who enjoys songs, and would like to write one of their own. Each chapter provides insights and exercises you can do from home right now.

Experienced songwriters can also find inspiration here to start something new, or get “unstuck” and make progress on their unfinished songs.

“Thank you for your work with our kids at Fond Du Lac High School! You will be happy to know that I have since pushed through the writer’s block on my composition project and am feeling some momentum on it! Getting much closer to the finish line, and your words in the songwriting class were very inspirational!”
